Volume 3 was confirmed at the Rooster Teeth panel at PAX Prime 2014, where creator and director Monty Oum stated that he planned to go into development of the next Volume right after he was done with Volume 2. The release of Volume 3 was postponed because of Oum's sudden passing in early 2015.[8] Weeks later, producer Gray Haddock announced that the series would continue, with Volume 3 premiering in 2015.[9] Chapter 1 was released for "sponsors" only on October 24, 2015, followed by the release on YouTube the following day.[10] Starting with Volume 3, the release day for new Chapters was changed from Thursday to Saturday, with a new release time of 10 am CST.[11] Before the release of Chapter 7, Gray Haddock announced that from this point on, RWBY would be incorporating darker and more mature elements to the story. He advised those responsible "for a very young viewer" to watch the episodes before deciding if they want to show them to a child.[12] Volume 3 concluded on February 13, 2016. This was the last volume in which Oum was credited as a writer.
The Volume 4 premiere was preceded by the first season of RWBY Chibi and the "Volume 4 Character Short". The character short featured an original story and animation, which were not cut from the upcoming volume, making it the first non-editorial trailer since the four character trailers for Volume 1. The character short also served as the Volume's main trailer.
Volume 4 was released on DVD and Blu-ray on June 6th, 2017. This release featured a "Complete" movie version of the volume. This "Complete" version would be released to the Rooster Teeth website and YouTube in parts starting on October 14th, 2019.
Volume 4 was animated in Autodesk Maya, unlike previous volumes of RWBY, which were animated in Smith Micro's Poser. Kerry Shawcross cites scalability as one of the advantages of the switch, expanding the number of people capable of working on the team. The new software also made real-time lighting, shadows and other effects feasible.[6]
The RWBY Official Manga Anthology volumes continue to be a labour of love for the artists; if you are a fan of the series, these new book collections will offer some new insights into your favourite characters.
This entire volume has been basically a setup for future progressions in the fifth volume. It is the build up towards the endgame wherein the forces of good and evil will clash to settle things once for all.
A volume 4 rewrite AU project. This is really just an experiment in making me fall if love with them again after I got caught by the Apathy. So I'm restructuring a lot of the plot and adding depth to most characters. This is a love letter to some of the ideas in the original show that I got invested in. 041b061a72
